The latest video on the Violin Club YouTube channel is now up, and it’s a quick intro to the four eras of Western art music history. Many of our students are familiar with some of the most significant musical themes of all time but may not realize who they were composed by or when. This video introduces some of the famous faces and sounds of each era.
A Bingo game is a fun way to review composer names and eras. Download a Bingo game featuring the composers in the video below. You can show the composer portrait cards for students to find and mark on their cards. Ramp up the intensity by naming the composer and asking students to identify the portrait, giving clues to the composer’s identity, or even playing a piece of music by the composer.
As a bonus to extend the lesson, you can delve more in-depth into Mozart with the composer activity packet below. The Composer Profile is perfect for a studio poster and includes a printer-friendly coloring page and a quarter note maze.
These activities will not only boost a student’s general music knowledge but help prepare your students for Levels 1, 2, and 3 of the Texas Music Teachers Association World of Music test.
